Scout’s Honour

Scout’s Honour

Our congregational treasurer, Jennifer, has been involved with Scouting for many years, and is Assistant Chief Scout Leader of her local Scout Troop.

In February, The District Commissioner visited their weekly meeting to present Jennifer with the Chief Scout’s Commendation for Meritorious Conduct. This was to recognise her dedication to Scouting despite having to cope with a serious health condition. (In 2012, Jennifer received treatment for cancer. We thank God for her recovery!)

In addition to this, Jennifer was also awarded the Bar to the Silver Acorn (she received the Silver Acorn in 2006) as part of the St George’s Day Awards which are given to leaders by the Chief Scout every year. Her certificate reads “In recognition of further specially distinguished service to Scouting“. The Bar to the Silver Acorn is the second highest recognition a leader in Scouting in the UK can receive.

The presentation was made at a celebration evening in March for all those in Greater London South who received awards. Jennifer was also invited to be a guest at the annual parade of Queen’s Scouts at Windsor Castle, and to a special service in St George’s Chapel, Windsor. The parade was reviewed by the Duchess of Cambridge. Jennifer saw her, but didn’t get to speak to her!
