One of our international students, Yu-En has just launched his own photography website. A recent graduate of Goldsmiths University of London, Yu-En’s new website coincides with the opening of an exhibition showcasing his, and other students, work. Within Walking Distance examines urban life through the twin lens of photography and sociology, runs from 10 – 20 October, and is located at the Bermondsey Project. (For more information visit the Within Walking Distance website).
Yu-En comes from Taiwan and for his latest project, he spent half a year working in London’s Chinatown with illegal immigrants from the Chinese city of Fu Qing. This enabled him to integrate into the migrant workers’ community and capture photographs that illustrate their stories of loneliness and financial hardship, as well as depicting the sacrifices they have had to make to their own personal comfort in order to support the families they have left back home.
